The Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) will deliver TUS’s ambition to be at the forefront of sustainable development in the TU Region, by delivering inter-disciplinary research and building new knowledge and delivering positive impacts for and outcomes for society. It will build on the extensive foundation of applied research within the TUS Thurles campus to create a Nationally and Internationally recognised centre of excellence which enables communities, enterprise and industry to contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

CoSy Thinking

Enhancing higher education on COmplex SYstems THINKING for sustainable development. The COSY project focuses its intervention on providing undergraduate students with opportunities to learn about complex systems, as well as providing short courses to lifelong learners active in agencies engaged in the 2030 Agenda. This will, in turn, benefit the organizations employing these students, and hopefully, improve the contributions to the 2030 Agenda and the sustainable development goals.

TUS Tipperary Campuses awarded Green Flag

As world leaders gathered for COP26 in Glasgow, the Tipperary campuses of the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest gathered to raise the An Taisce Green Flag in Clonmel and Thurles. The green flag, which was presented today (Tuesday) to students and staff at TUS Thurles Campus, and yesterday (Monday) to staff and students at the Clonmel Digital Campus, recognises the efforts of the campus communities in reducing waste and increasing recycling as part of the Green Campus Programme.

European Climate Leadership programme

The REMARKABLE project, which officially launched in Thurles, is a programme that will support leaders across seven European countries to deliver step change progress towards carbon neutrality. The project, which was proposed by the TUS Development Unit and funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 fund, aims to address the goal for Europe’s economy and society to become climate neutral by 2050, as set out in the European Green deal and written into European Climate Law.
